Author Bio

Ukay J. Ekong was born and raised on the northeast side of Dallas, Texas. He was born the middle of three boys, each two years apart. His father and mother, Imoh and Grace, were both hard-working white collar Nigerian immigrants, providing great examples on overcoming some of life’s toughest obstacles, and the value of putting your best foot forward. Ukay started writing by accident when he was around 6 or 7, by way of just the morning journaling exercises offered daily as class curriculum at Thomas Haley Elementary in Irving, Texas.

Ukay has worked as a youth mentor (Big Brothers & Big Sisters of Dallas), Bible school teacher, and community volunteer before ascending into a  #1 Amazon Best Selling self-published writer. Finding his calling early, he decided he was best positioned in focusing on centering messages around books detailing physical and spiritual health, as well as mental support for African-American youth and adults. Ukay has become very open  and honest about his struggles with bullying. The growth and understanding in how he was able to use each the negative experience helped him create an idea of combining a fitness book that also give tips on supporting mental health. This lead to writing his first workbook entitled, Buck-Naked & Blessed, which did just that.

The book, Buck-Naked & Blessed even inspired a 4-part personalized documentary where Ukay is taking viewers through his life and the up close trauma and healing process. The film is currently available through his website. His books all push the idea of revelation through trial and error. The success of his first book made way for an opportunity at the next project which became his first children’s activity book, The Gospel Activity Book Of Bible Stories.  One of the few children’s activity books which tells the story of the Bible from an African-inspired lens. In 2022, it was a top selling book, and acclaimed as one of Amazon’s List of Best Sellers in the travel category.

Ukay has gone on to also write many more book, for kids and adults alike. One being a fund church trivia book, Would You Rather: Gospel Church Edition, beloved at church conferences nationwide. Along with three separate 3-Minute Affirmation Journals specific to black men, women, and children that continue to support his role in the mental health advocacy space. Overall, his main focus overall has been just finding new ways to pour back into under-served people and communities. Specifically to uplift, educate, and empower. U’kay hopes his story will help remind others that even broken people can be used for greatness.
